November 16, 2008 After being frustrated by three consecutive 6-5 losses, St. Vincent traveled East and picked up two exciting wins against Gettysburg College, 9-7, and Bucknell University, 3-2. The Polar Bearcats started fast against Gettysburg with quick strikes in building 5-1 first period lead. Trading scores in the second period, Gettysburg replicated the SVC first period attack and slammed in 5 goals to build a 7-6 lead. Tim Legath tied the game on a power play for St. Vincent and Joe Manning slammed in the game- |

winning goal a few minutes later. In one of the most exciting plays of the game, winger Mario Saird blocked a shot by the home team and raced down the right side ripping a wrist shot by the Gettysburg goaltender far side. D. J. Beitel continued his torrid scoring pace (7 goals in his last three games) by twice depositing pucks for scores. The SVC attack also featured a four-assist effort by Dave Glunt and a huge 5-point game by Joe Manning. Freshman Kevin Kirschbaum notched the first score of his career and Josh Kearns and Dave Ulishney also snapped shots for goals. In spite of surrendering 7 goals, Joe Ring made 44 saves in running his season record to 2-0-0. Defenseman Mike Pippi recorded his first assist of the year. After a visit to Hershey’s Chocolate world late Saturday morning, the SVC bus headed north to square off against Bucknell. Unlike the Gettysburg game, Bucknell was a much tighter defensive struggle. Although SVC never trailed, the Bison’s twice rallied to tie the score after an opening goal by Tim Legath in the first and a score by D.J. Beitel in the second. Dave Glunt notched the game winner in the final period when he skated into the Bucknell zone and ripped a perfectly placed slap shot to the low stick side of the goaltender. SVC held off a late rally with a man down and the Bison goalie pulled. Rich Sadlowski was in net and stopped 21 shots for his second win of the season. The two wins moved SVC’s season record to 4-5-1. |
