Hope, Bill C’03 |
“You gotta have Hope” was a frequent saying on the SVC bench during the two seasons that Bill suited up for the Green and Gold. Bill was out of the game for several years after playing at Greensburg Central Catholic and then attending Penn State University. He made strong improvements in his game during those two years and had some great moments on the ice. During his senior year he set up a key goal in the St. Vincent win over the Naval Academy. During a later game against the University of Pittsburgh, while on a penalty kill, he stripped the puck from a Panther point man and sprung Tom Ward for a breakaway shorthanded goal. The best came in his final game of his senior year. After being thwarted on several outstanding scoring chances, including rocket hard shots from the slot, he scored a goal late in the third period while being knocked on his knees in front of the Case Western Reserve University net. Bill was a fierce competitor on the ice, would recklessly throw his body into checks, and had a great attitude in helping the team to two consecutive winning seasons. |
