Bruzda, Cory

C 07

Few players made such significant strides in their game as did Cory for the two years he played for the Polar Bearcats.  As someone who could combine physical play with a great scoring touch, he developed into one of the leagues best power forwards and was selected as the team’s most improved player in the 2004-2005 season.  After suiting up for the Westmoreland Amateur Association Cory continued playing hockey at SVC while enrolled in the dual option pharmacy program in conjunction with Duquesne University, transferring after his sophomore year to work on a Pharm D. degree.  During his second year on the team his play earned him a spot on the top line between Tom and Matt Ward.  He was the first player in St. Vincent history to score in the ACHA D III National Tournament by notching the first goal of the game against South Dakota State University in the 2003-2004 season series in Phoenix, Arizona.  Cory was also named one of the College Hockey East Players of the Week in 2004-2005.  He earned the honors be exploding for 5 goals in two days against two of the top ranked teams in the league, UPJ and Cal, driving SVC to two victories.  Even though he was capable of playing a very physical game, he took few penalties, adding to his value to the team.
